Abhiram Baderia, a class X student from Apeejay Noida, was seven or eight years old when he was introduced to Hindustani classical music. After four years of formal training in the art form, he has now bagged the golden opportunity to participate in an international music festival in Linz, Austria.

Musicians from 15 countries will be performing at the festival called “Waves”. Abhiram will be singing as a choir member from his music school Brahmaswar Music Academy under the mentorship of his music guru Aparajita Dasgupta. “Seven students from our choir will be singing at Linz with our guru. I am very happy and excited!” the Apeejay student shares.
Music was initially “just a hobby” for this young talent but he developed a passion for it gradually. “I love singing and listening to all kinds of music. It makes me feel relaxed and at peace, especially when I am stressed with my studies. I make sure to do my riyaz every day for an hour at least. I also play the harmonium sometimes,” he says.
Meanwhile, he participates in every single musical event held at school. And for this, he credits his teachers at school for their constant support and encouragement to pursue music amid academic commitments. He adds they were thrilled to know about his forthcoming trip to Austria.
Not just teachers, Abhiram’s parents are supportive too. “My mother especially aspires to see me win accolades in music,” he shares.
While gearing up for class X Board exams, Abhiram is determined to not give up music at any cost. Talking about balancing studies and music while prepping for a crucial milestone, he says, “Initially, I struggled to attend long practice sessions while preparing for exams. But I made some adjustments to my timetable which helped me cope better.
“I will not skip riyaz even during my Board exam. I have decided to use my break time for practising. It will also help me de-stress. That way, I will be able to manage both Board preparation and music practice.”
