Apeejay School, Saket students send handcrafted rakhis to soldiers in Sena Bhawan

In a beautiful gesture that wove together tradition, patriotism, and gratitude, the Interact Club of Apeejay School, Saket launched a meaningful initiative titled ‘Raksha Bandhan with Gratitude’. Celebrated as a festival of love and protection between siblings, Raksha Bandhan took on a deeper meaning as students came together to honour the brave soldiers of India, the true protectors of the nation.

The initiative was not only a celebration but a powerful message of unity, respect, and national pride. The club members personally visited Sena Bhawan, New Delhi, and handed over a collection of handcrafted rakhis to Col. Harinder Singh Suhag, Director, Line Works (South West), Indian Army. These beautiful rakhis, made lovingly by the students, are being sent to soldiers posted at the borders.

Honouring the real heroes of India

This noble gesture was more than just symbolic. It was a small but powerful way to convey gratitude to the Indian Armed Forces, whose unwavering courage ensures that citizens can celebrate festivals in peace and security. The act of tying a rakhi symbolising protection and love was extended to those who selflessly guard the nation, often away from their families during festive occasions.

By participating in this initiative, students experienced first-hand the importance of empathy and collective responsibility. For many of them, it was the first time they connected so deeply with the sacrifices made by the defence forces.

A hands-on learning experience for students

The Interact Club members, along with their mentors, put in days of preparation making colourful rakhis, writing heartfelt notes, and organising the handover visit. The entire process was a reflection of value-based education where academic learning is complemented by compassion, service, and civic awareness.

The visit to Sena Bhawan was a rare opportunity for the students to interact with a senior Army official and gain insight into the lives and challenges of those in uniform. Col. Suhag appreciated the students’ initiative and accepted the rakhis on behalf of the Indian Army, commending the school for encouraging such thoughtful outreach.

Apeejay School, Saket has always believed in nurturing emotionally intelligent, socially conscious and well-rounded individuals. Events like these serve as a platform for students to reflect on their role as responsible citizens and extend kindness beyond their immediate surroundings.
