In a progressive and thoughtful initiative, Apeejay School, Saket recently organised an informative and age-appropriate workshop on Menstrual Hygiene for the girl students of Classes V and VI. With a focus on health, awareness, and self-care, the session aimed to create a safe and supportive environment where young girls could learn about an important aspect of growing up – without fear, embarrassment, or stigma.

A Thoughtful and Interactive Session

The workshop was led by the school counsellor, who spoke to the students with clarity and sensitivity. She explained the basics of the menstrual cycle, helping students understand the biological changes that occur during this natural process. The counsellor further emphasised the significance of maintaining personal hygiene during periods – such as changing sanitary napkins regularly, washing properly, and using clean, safe products.

In addition to health and hygiene, the session also highlighted proper methods of disposing of sanitary napkins. Students were taught not only the “how” but also the “why” – why it is important to dispose of pads responsibly to prevent health hazards and contribute to environmental cleanliness.

A Unique Voice: Learning from Real-Life Experience

What made this workshop stand out was the meaningful involvement of one of the school’s support staff. A school maid stepped forward to demonstrate and share her practical knowledge on the correct disposal of sanitary products. Her inputs added a relatable, everyday perspective that deeply resonated with the students. It also reinforced a valuable lesson – that everyone, regardless of role, has important knowledge to offer and deserves to be heard with respect.

For many of the participants, this was their first formal exposure to the topic. The openness of the session encouraged students to shed their shyness and ask questions freely. Through discussion and interaction, the girls began to see menstruation not as a problem to be hidden but as a natural part of life to be managed with care and confidence.

A Step Towards Holistic Development

Workshops like these are a testament to Apeejay School, Saket’s commitment to holistic education. The school believes in nurturing not just the minds but also the emotional and physical well-being of its students. By encouraging dialogue on topics that are often considered sensitive, the school fosters an environment of inclusivity, awareness, and empowerment.

As the session concluded, it was heartening to witness the students leave with not just information, but with a sense of pride and self-assurance. Apeejay School, Saket continues to take bold and meaningful steps in shaping confident, empathetic, and well-informed individuals – ready to embrace every stage of life with awareness and grace.
