In a remarkable achievement that reflects the spirit of scientific inquiry and innovation, Apeejay School, Noida has made its mark among the Top 1000 teams in the School Innovation Marathon 2024-25, a national-level competition organized under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, MIC, AICTE, and UNICEF YuWaah, aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Out of over 1 lakh student submissions from across the country, the school’s entry titled ‘Agnisurak’ stood out for its practical utility and forward-thinking approach. The project proposes the use of thermal drones in wildfire management, disaster response, and firefighting support. Class 12-A students Abhiroop Kapoor, Prisha Aggarwal, and Ishaan Gupta presented their project to a national jury, winning accolades for their clarity of vision and technical detailing.
The team was guided by Ms Seema Sharma, Chemistry PGT, who played a vital role in shaping their approach. “She worked, researched with us, and made time despite her demanding schedule,” said Abhiroop Kapoor, who led the ideation process. “The prototype was an evolution of a previous project I’d worked on during inter-school events. I’ve always loved coming up with ideas, and my friend is a drone expert—so that sparked the concept of Agnisurak.”
Each student brought unique strengths to the table. “We divided the project into three parts,” shared Abhiroop. “I took up ideation, Prisha translated those ideas into coherent narration, and Ishaan worked on video editing and design.”
Ishaan Gupta added, “Agnisurak is designed to assist firefighters in high-risk operations. With thermal cameras, sensors, and sprinklers, the drones can navigate dangerous zones and provide real-time data. Our teachers supported us with valuable resources and insights throughout.”
For Prisha Aggarwal, the motivation was deeply human. “The California wildfires were all over the news. I thought, why not work on something that can save lives? Our drone can go where human entry is too dangerous, helping firefighters with live threat assessment and reducing casualties.”
The team’s collaborative spirit, underpinned by mentorship and a drive to solve real-world problems, has propelled them to national recognition. Their innovation not only highlights the potential of technology in disaster management but also exemplifies the commitment of Apeejay School, Noida to fostering future-ready changemakers.
