Swami Vivekananda’s teachings continue to inspire generations, urging individuals to perceive education not merely as an academic pursuit but as a force for positive transformation in society. In keeping with this vision, Apeejay School, Nerul celebrated the 162nd birth anniversary of the spiritual leader with enthusiasm and reverence. The event was a tribute to his legacy, aiming to instill in students a sense of self-realisation, academic excellence, and social responsibility.
The celebration commenced with an invocation in the form of Saraswati Vandana, a prayer dedicated to the goddess of wisdom. The chant set a contemplative tone for the event, invoking blessings for knowledge and enlightenment. This beginning resonated with Swami Vivekananda’s belief in education as a means of empowerment and transformation.

An intellectual segment followed, where students revisited the historic Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago, 1893. Through an enactment, Neel Yadav delivered Swami Vivekananda’s famous address that earned him global recognition as the “Messenger of Indian wisdom to the Western world.” The speech inspired students to reflect on Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy of self-confidence, fearlessness, and service to humanity.
A skit further enriched the event, showcasing a pivotal moment from Swami Vivekananda’s early years. The scene depicted young Naren’s rational mindset as he climbed his favorite Champaka tree despite superstitious warnings of ghostly apparitions. The performance underscored the importance of questioning irrational beliefs and embracing critical thinking, echoing Swamiji’s emphasis on logic and courage.
Adding a rhythmic dimension to the event, students presented a dance performance titled “Sharanagoto tumi swagoto” (You are the one I take refuge in, welcome, Oh Great Soul). The choreographed tribute celebrated the wisdom and spiritual aura of Swami Vivekananda, captivating the audience with its expressions and movements.

The event reached its pinnacle with an address by Principal Mr. P. Subash. He traced Swami Vivekananda’s spiritual journey, highlighting his quest for truth and his commitment to his guru, Sri Ramakrishna. The speech articulated Swamiji’s vision of a resurgent India, where the fusion of ancient wisdom and modern science would lead to progress. His words culminated in a call to action, urging students to draw inspiration from Swami Vivekananda’s teachings. The exhortation, “Arise, awake, and stop not until the goal is achieved,” reinforced the essence of perseverance and purpose.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to dignitaries, participants, organisers, and attendees who contributed to the event’s success. The gesture of appreciation reflected the spirit of unity and collective effort, mirroring Swami Vivekananda’s ideals of harmony and societal growth.
