In an inspiring initiative aimed at enhancing student awareness and critical thinking, Apeejay School, Model Town organised a thoughtful newspaper reading session for students of Grades VI and VII. The event served as a gateway for students to look beyond the surface of the headlines and dive into the depths of real-world information and analysis.
Held in the serene and resource-rich library of the school, the session witnessed active participation from students dressed in colourful house uniforms, radiating excitement and curiosity. With newspapers spread open and eyes keenly scanning the pages, the young readers explored a wide range of topics – science innovations, global events, sports highlights, environmental news, and more.
Creating Thoughtful, Informed Learners
This initiative was designed not just to build reading habits, but to shape informed perspectives. Students were encouraged to reflect on the content they read, think critically, and participate in discussions with peers. The exercise helped in enhancing their general awareness, comprehension, and analytical thinking, skills that go far beyond textbooks.
By engaging in this activity, students developed a daily habit that will serve them well for life. Reading newspapers not only improves vocabulary and language proficiency but also fosters a better understanding of current affairs and global citizenship. The school believes such experiences lay the groundwork for socially responsible and aware individuals – true leaders of tomorrow.

Teachers applauded the initiative, noting how such reading sessions align with the school’s focus on holistic development and experiential learning. They also noted significant improvement in student engagement and communication.
Children who read newspapers regularly often perform better in language and social studies exams. With thoughtful initiatives like this, Apeejay School, Model Town continues to empower its students to become articulate, aware, and empathetic contributors to society.
