The Inter-House Solo Dance Competition at Apeejay School, Faridabad, Sector 15 turned into a spectacular showcase of rhythm, devotion, and artistry as junior students took centre stage with captivating classical and semi-classical performances. From invoking mythological tales to expressing pure emotion through Bharatanatyam, the young dancers mesmerised the audience and impressed the judges with their grace, discipline, and confidence.
Each performance reflected not only hours of practice but also the passion of students determined to keep India’s cultural heritage alive.
Lavanya Girdhar – First Position
Class 8 student Lavanya Girdhar stole the spotlight with a powerful semi-classical Bharatanatyam performance based on the Mahabharata. Having trained for two years under her teacher, Lavanya explained that she prepared for nearly 15 days with the guidance of her guru as well as through self-practice.
“I was very happy and excited to win the first prize,” she shared with joy. A budding dancer and sports enthusiast, Lavanya also enjoys soccer and basketball, balancing her passion for both stage and field.

Sayesha Malhotra – Second Position
Also from Class 8, Sayesha Malhotra impressed with her dynamic performance of Shiv Stotram in the Bharatanatyam style. She described the dance as “powerful and energetic,” noting how even a single practice session would leave her drenched in sweat.
Guided by her school dance teacher, Sayesha mastered the piece in just 3–4 days. “The way she corrected my postures and expressions helped me a lot,” she said. Alongside her love for dance, Sayesha actively participates in recitation, storytelling, role-plays, and music, making her an all-rounder in the cultural sphere.
Saanvi Mehta – Third Position
Classical grace took centre stage with Saanvi Mehta’s performance of Alaripu, a traditional Bharatanatyam piece known for its rhythm and precision. Guided by her dance teacher, Saanvi practiced diligently during her school’s enrichment period until she perfected every movement. “It took me several days to get this dance to perfection, I practised it every day,” she shared.

The hard work paid off, as she secured the third position in the competition and walked away with joy and self-satisfaction. “I felt satisfied with myself and very joyous,” she said about her performance. Apart from dance, Saanvi also enjoys drawing and painting, channeling her creativity into multiple forms of art.

Prakriti Shukla – Consolation Prize
From Class 6, Prakriti Shukla performed a graceful Bharatanatyam piece on Ganesh Vandana. She prepared diligently over 10 days with her dance teacher’s guidance. Having learned Bharatanatyam for two years, Prakriti expressed, “I feel very happy while performing Bharatanatyam.”
Beyond dance, she enjoys football, reading, and even playing the sitar, which she has been learning for a year. Her curiosity and eagerness to explore multiple art forms reflect her creative spirit.
Paavni Malhotra – Consolation Prize

Another Class 6 participant, Paavni Malhotra, mesmerised the audience with a Bharatanatyam piece dedicated to Lord Ganesh. She prepared over 20 days under the guidance of her dance teacher. “I was happy to perform solo on stage, but also a little nervous about making mistakes,” Paavni admitted.
Passionate about trying new competitions, she has already won third place in an art contest. For Paavni, dance is not only an art form but also a source of joy and confidence.
