A knowledgeable citizen is an asset to the nation. One must be aware about the nation one lives in. It is only then that a sense of love for the country finds a place in one’s heart. For one then strives to become a responsible citizen and ensure the progress of one’s land.
Keeping in mind the resonance of the above mentioned words, Apeejay School, Kharghar organized an inter house heritage quiz competition for the students of classes 3-5 on August 29. Students from the four different houses namely: Topaz, Ruby, Emerald and Sapphire, gave a tough battle to each other as they exercised their little grey cells and answered questions on national heritage.
The aim of the quiz competition was to make the future citizens of the nation aware about the cultural heritage of the country. The students were tested about their knowledge in dance, music, arts, languages, festivals, monuments and food of India.
The students showcased their brilliance by rapidly answering the questions. It was a very informative and enriching competition for the participants along with the audience. Although all the houses actively participated with an equal enthusiasm, Topaz House and Ruby house bagged the first and the second positions respectively. It was a unique way of making the children learn about Indian heritage in a different manner, away from books and classroom teaching.
Topaz house prefect and Class 5 student, Anushree Mudafale stood first in the quiz competition. Speaking about her experience she said, “The questions were outside the textbook which made the quiz very interesting. There were 5 rounds, one on: Food, architecture, monuments, music and slogans of freedom fighters.” She added, “I loved the round of monuments. One had to identify the monument shown in the picture. I had a question on Sanchi stupa and I was able to identify the same. The quiz was a wonderful experience. I learned a lot about my nation.”

“India will invariably throw surprises at us. It’s a land full of diversity. One can get absolutely mesmerized by the beautiful landscapes of the Himalayan foothills, plains, coastal regions, golden desert and dense green forests. The vibrant culture of the country is equally intriguing. As rightly said by the Canadian artist Raymond Page “Waking up in India is like waking up to life itself”.”
