Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, proudly celebrates the remarkable accomplishment of Dr. Sumit Singh Padam, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Visual and Performing Arts, who has been awarded the coveted “A” Grade in Sitar (Hindustani Classical) by All India Radio (Prasar Bharati, Government of India). This recognition stands as a testament to his outstanding artistry, years of dedication, and deep-rooted connection to the world of Indian Classical Music.

Belonging to a highly distinguished musical lineage, Dr. Padam is the third generation of musicians in his family. His grandfather, Sh. Sohan Singh Padam, himself a graded AIR artist, was not only a celebrated Sitarist but also a respected craftsman of classical instruments. His father, Sh. Jasbir Singh Padam, is a noted exponent of both Sitar and Tabla, carrying forward the family’s musical traditions with distinction. Following in their footsteps, Dr. Sumit has carved out his own unique space in the classical music landscape.

Continuing his training under the guidance of Pandit Harvinder Sharma, a Top Grade AIR/TV artist from the legendary lineage of Ustad Vilayat Khan Saheb (Imdadkhani Gharana), Dr. Padam imbibes the philosophy of “Guru Kripa Hi Kevalam”, attributing his growth to the blessings and guidance of his mentors. Over the years, he has earned immense acclaim for his soulful sitar recitals, enchanting audiences across India and abroad.

An accomplished academician as well as a performer, Dr. Sumit Singh Padam holds an M.A., M.Phil, and Ph.D. in Music. His scholarly knowledge, combined with his performance expertise, adds immense value to the academic environment at Apeejay College of Fine Arts. His presence enriches the learning of his students, inspiring them not only to master technical skills but also to appreciate the depth, discipline, and devotion required in the pursuit of Indian Classical Music.

On this proud occasion, Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, expressed her admiration for the achievement. She said, “We are proud to have Dr. Sumit Singh Padam in our faculty. Teachers like him not only carry forward India’s rich cultural heritage but also serve as role models for our students, blending discipline, devotion, and excellence in their teaching.”

Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Dr. Sumit acknowledged the constant encouragement of Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Cultural Advisor Dr. Arun Mishra, and Dean Dr. Amita Mishra, whose support has greatly shaped his journey.

This milestone stands as a matter of great pride for the Apeejay family, as Dr. Padam’s achievement not only reinforces the college’s commitment to nurturing talent but also underscores its role in preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage.
