Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC), Dwarka, welcomed its new batch of students with an insightful Industry Cum Academic Orientation Day 2025. The event was designed to introduce students and parents to the institute’s culture, and opportunities that lie ahead. With eminent dignitaries, media professionals, and engaging interactions, the programme set the tone for the academic year.
A traditional beginning
The event commenced with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. The dignitaries who graced the occasion included Professor Ashok Ogra, Advisor, AIMC; Professor Sajal Mukherjee, Director, AIMC; Dr. R.P. Hooda, Professor Emeritus, Apeejay School of Management; and Dr. Usha Ravi, Associate Professor and Deputy Registrar, Apeejay School of Management. Parents and students also joined them in this auspicious ritual.

This was followed by the National Anthem, made more meaningful with the display of a sign language video. Students and faculty then presented the AIMC song, a special composition created by the community.

Guiding words from academic leaders
Introducing AIMC’s vision, Professor Ashok Ogra underlined the institute’s commitment to nurturing creative and ethical media professionals. He reminded students that in an era where technology is reshaping journalism every day, adaptability is the greatest strength. “Skills can be taught, but it is integrity and curiosity that will set you apart in the media industry,” he remarked.

The welcome address by Professor Sajal Mukherjee, Director, AIMC, further set the stage for the journey ahead. He encouraged students to remain curious, hardworking, and committed to lifelong learning. His speech also reassured parents about the holistic development opportunities AIMC provides. “AIMC is not only about imparting skills; it is about shaping individuals who think critically, act responsibly, and communicate effectively,” said Prof. Mukherjee.
Learning from industry voices

The first guest speaker, Ms. Shivangi Thakur, Assistant Editor, Zee News, was introduced to the gathering. Facilitated by Prof. Ogra, she then delivered the inaugural lecture, sharing her professional experiences and the challenges of working in a fast-paced newsroom. She spoke about the importance of accuracy, resilience, and passion in journalism. “In today’s world of fast news, authenticity remains the most powerful currency,” emphasised Ms. Thakur.
Her session was followed by an interactive Q&A, where she candidly answered questions about the industry, work-life balance, and future opportunities.

The excitement continued as the audience attended the keynote session, virtually delivered by Ms. Palki Sharma, Managing Editor, Firstpost. She spoke about the evolving role of media in shaping public opinion, the ethical challenges journalists face today, and the need for young professionals to uphold credibility in the digital era. “Journalism is not about echoing voices, but about amplifying truths that matter,” said Ms. Sharma.
Exploring the campus:
After the sessions, students and parents embarked on a campus tour, which showcased AIMC’s modern infrastructure, well-equipped labs, and interactive learning spaces.
The new batch of students shared their excitement and aspirations, reflecting the enthusiasm of the day.
“The sessions taught me to never lose hope, and I feel inspired to make the most of this opportunity,” said Simran, 1st year, PG Diploma in Digital Media and Online Journalism.
“I’ve decided to pursue TV and Broadcast Journalism. It has been very exciting, and after spending just an hour here, I feel hopeful and motivated about what lies ahead.” shared Jaismeen Chaudhary, another 1st year student.
Hailing from Nagaland, 1st year student Keviosekhono Whiso expressed, “The orientation was extremely insightful, and meeting industry experts was truly inspiring. I’m excited about the new learning journey at AIMC and hope to create a memorable experience here,” added
Meeting the Core Faculty:
The orientation then moved into one of its most anticipated sessions – introductions by the core faculty of AIMC. Each professor took the stage not only to share their credentials but also to highlight their vision for student learning. Faculty members explained how they integrate theory with practical exposure, through projects, workshops, and live assignments, ensuring students stay industry-ready.

The conversation extended beyond academics, focusing on how AIMC faculty continuously guide students in developing critical thinking, ethical values, and professional discipline, all essential for thriving in the fast-paced media industry. New joinees also participated in a Q&A session with the faculty, raising queries about courses, internships, placements, and industry exposure.
The day concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, guests, faculty, and parents.
