Orientation programme is a pivotal event in a student’s academic journey, setting the tone for the experiences and learning that lie ahead. Recognising the importance of this moment, Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC), Dwarka, recently hosted a comprehensive orientation programme for its new batch of students. This day-long event was designed to energise, inform, and inspire the fresh entrants as they embark on their journey in media education.
The day began with an energetic exercise aimed at infusing positivity and enthusiasm into the crowd. Faculty members led the students through a clapping exercise that filled the room with a vibrant energy, marking the start of a day full of insights and interactions. The audience was further familiarised with the line “Zoom-in to Success,” that emphasised the importance of clarity in both thought and action, setting the tone for the day.

Guest Speakers and Insights
The orientation was graced by Mr Annurag Batra,Chairman & Editor in Chief, BW Businessworld & Exchange4media Group, and Ms Babita Barua, CEO for VML India, who were the guest speakers for the day. The event was also graced by other distinguished guests including Pushpa Nair, Adjunct Faculty at Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, Dr. R P Hooda, Emeritus Professor, Dr. Etinder Pal Singh, Deputy Director at Apeejay School of Management (ASM), Prof. Ashok Ogra, Advisor AIMC, Prof. Sajal Mukherjee, Director at AIMC, and Associate Professor Naveen Gautam, Assistant Professors Prof. Mudita Raj, Prof. Ankit Kumar Malyan as well as Prof. Sukriti Arora.


A Day of Engagement and Learning
The programme kicked off on an auspicious note with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by a warm welcome by Sajal Mukherjee, who expressed his honour in hosting such esteemed guests. He spoke about the unique opportunity this orientation provided for new students to interact with professionals who have excelled in their respective fields. He highlighted an array of programmes and activities that would guide students in becoming proficient professionals, offering them a comprehensive perspective of the media industry.


A special address by Professor Ogra was a notable highlight. He discussed the evolution of mass communication, emphasising that today’s media landscape extends beyond traditional broadcasting to include platforms like YouTube, where individuals can be their own broadcasters. He also spoke about the institute’s pillars of success: a strong alumni network, a dedicated faculty, and state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The orientation day also featured an inspiring video titled “Lakshay Toh Pana Hai,”, directed and produced by the students of AIMC, which encapsulated their passion and determination. The emcees for the event was Swagatam Roy, an alumnus, and current student Kajal, who reflected the strong connection between past and present students at AIMC.


Industry Insights and Future Vision
Further, Mr Anurag Batra, speaking from a parent’s perspective, encouraged students to focus not only on placements but also on the learning process. He emphasised the importance of developing good habits, consuming content actively, and engaging with mentors.
Following his speech, Ms Babita Barua shared her journey in advertising, stressing the importance of adaptability and teamwork in the ever-evolving media landscape. She introduced the concept of the four Cs—Connection, Conversation, Creativity, and Culture—underscoring their relevance in today’s media industry.

Finally, the orientation programme at AIMC was a resounding success, offering new students a blend of inspiration, practical insights, and a clear path forward in their media education journey. The event set the stage for a fruitful academic year, filled with opportunities for growth, learning, and professional development. The day ended with a group photograph session.
