Anmol Wadhwa is the Assistant General Manager of Business Development at Genesys International Corporation Ltd. He is an Apeejay School of Management (ASM) alumnus who thanks the Delhi-based MBA college immensely for catapulting him to professional success.

In a quick chat, Wadhwa explains the nature of skills he learnt at ASM and how his mentors went the extra mile for him frequently. Read edited excerpts:

What does a regular day at work look like?

A regular day at work typically involves a blend of various tasks and responsibilities. I start by checking emails and messages to catch up on any urgent matters or communications that have come in overnight. This helps me prioritise tasks for the day and ensure I’m up to date on any developments. Once I’m caught up on all the communications, I review my meetings for the day. This might involve updating and scheduling meetings or setting goals for the day.

Much of my day involves meetings with clients through video calls or in-person discussions. These meetings could include sales presentations, strategy meetings or internal interactions depending on the day’s agenda. As an Asst. General Manager in business development, I work for 40 hours in a week. Additionally, the nature of the job may sometimes require flexibility, such as attending networking events or meeting with clients outside of regular office hours. My primary responsibility is to identify new business opportunities and build strategic relationships to drive growth for my organisation.

Do tell us about the time spent at the college?

It was a transformative experience, filled with a blend of academic rigor and personal growth. Attending lectures, seminars, case studies, group projects and participating in experiential learning activities helped me gain a deep understanding of business concepts and frameworks. Internship experience during the course helped in applying classroom knowledge to real business problems. The internship helped in providing valuable hands-on experience, industry exposure and networking opportunities.

What were your favourite subjects?

My favourite subjects were marketing management, digital marketing and business communication.

And did the college help you in getting placement?

ASM has helped me a lot in getting placement. The college hosted a lot of companies on the campus for recruitment. ASM has helped me a lot by training me for the placements by holding resume writing sessions, mock interviews, group discussion sessions. Also the mentors helped me a lot in building good communication skills, presentation skills, soft skills and doing career counselling to me.

How did the faculty mentor you at ASM?

Teachers at the ASM were very supportive, possessing great subject matter expertise. They were very much approachable and great as mentors. They were not only committed to teaching but were also committed to student success, providing real-world experience and a commitment to continual learning and growth. I really owe my growth to them!

Your advice for the current students

Maximise every opportunity for learning, growth, and networking. Focus not only on academic knowledge but also on developing essential skills such as communication, leadership and problem-solving. These soft skills are critical for success in the workplace and will set you apart from your peers.
