Dr. Stya Paul was an eminent industrialist, educationist, and philanthropist. Despite suffering a physical handicap caused by polio at the age of two, he overcame his disability and humble beginnings to become one of the most respected figures in the nation. Born in 1919, Stya Paulji moved with his family to Lahore (now in Pakistan) when he was a child.

Fondly called Sethji, he was one of the earliest industrialists in the country who recognised the significant role that industry could play in providing quality education and contributing to nation-building. To achieve this objective, he decided to establish not-for-profit educational institutions across the country, where scientific and career-building knowledge could be provided alongside the inculcation of values and an appreciation of Indian culture, arts, and heritage.
Dr. Stya Paul, as the undisputed voice of the industry in young independent India, was also a pioneer in embracing the concept of corporate social responsibility and emphasised the integral relationship between ethics and business. In 2010, Dr. Stya Paul’s lifelong dream materialised with the establishment of Apeejay Stya University.
Apart from his professional endeavours, Dr. Stya Paul retained a love for Urdu poetry, spiritualism, philosophy, mysticism, music, and arts. He compiled his favourite verses and quotes into the book ‘Reflections in Time.’ Additionally, he published a quarterly family magazine called ‘Chang Calling.’
