Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, once again proved its commitment to cultural excellence as its students brought laurels to the institution by bagging the third position in the Punjabi Attire Competition organised by Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar.
The competition formed a part of GNDU’s Golden Jubilee Convocation, which this year has been dedicated to Punjab, Punjabi, and Punjabiyat. To mark the celebrations, the University hosted a vibrant Punjabi Attire Competition on the theme “Punjabi Virsa and Maa Boli Punjabi”, attracting enthusiastic participation from its affiliated colleges. A total of 27 colleges showcased their talent and cultural pride, making the event a spectacular display of Punjab’s rich heritage.
Representing Apeejay College of Fine Arts with enthusiasm and grace were Ms. Gurnit Kaur Nijjar from the Department of Multimedia and Mr. Jastej Singh from the Department of Commerce. Both participants embodied the essence of Punjab’s traditional attire and cultural vibrancy through their outstanding presentations. Their effort was a fine blend of authenticity, creativity, and confidence, highlighting the college’s emphasis on nurturing cultural roots alongside academic pursuits.
Among the many talented participants, it was Mr. Jastej Singh who stood out for his remarkable presentation and stage presence. His performance secured him the third position, thereby bringing immense pride to Apeejay College of Fine Arts. The achievement not only celebrated individual talent but also reflected the institution’s continuous encouragement of students to engage in extracurricular and cultural activities at inter-college and university levels.

The event was more than just a competition; it was a tribute to Punjab’s timeless traditions, language, and values. Participants draped in traditional attire created a vivid tapestry of colors and customs that resonated with the audience and jury alike. By engaging the youth in such activities, Guru Nanak Dev University successfully reinforced the importance of Punjabi Virsa and Maa Boli Punjabi in today’s fast-changing world.
The accomplishment at GNDU adds another feather to ACFA’s cap, reaffirming its role as an institution that not only excels in academics but also thrives in cultural representation. The college continues to motivate students to explore their creative and cultural potential, ensuring holistic development.
The Principal of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Dr. Neerja Dhingra, congratulated the winners and expressed her joy over the achievement. She mentioned, “Such opportunities help students stay connected to their heritage while gaining the confidence to perform on bigger platforms.” She further emphasised that preserving one’s culture is as important as excelling in academics, and Apeejay College will always stand committed to this balance.
