The IT Forum of the PG Department of Computer Science at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, successfully conducted a one-day workshop on Power BI, a widely used business analytics tool developed by Microsoft. The workshop provided students with hands-on training and practical insights into data visualization, business intelligence, and analytical reporting.
The resource speaker for the session was Mr. Gagandeep Singh, Co-founder and Data Analyst at AOSC Technology. Welcoming him to the college, Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra emphasised the significance of bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and industry-driven practical skills. She stated, “Our objective is to ensure that students do not just acquire bookish knowledge but also develop real-world expertise. The insights shared by Mr. Singh will certainly enhance our students’ understanding of industry-relevant tools.”
During the session, Mr. Gagandeep Singh provided a comprehensive introduction to Power BI, detailing its critical role in business analytics and decision-making. He explained how organizations utilise Power BI to analyze vast datasets and derive meaningful insights through interactive visualizations. Additionally, he showcased practical applications, helping students understand the tool’s features, including dashboards, reports, and data transformation techniques.
The workshop witnessed an enthusiastic participation of 50 students from the IT Forum, who actively engaged in hands-on exercises and discussions. Students eagerly posed queries, which Mr. Singh addressed efficiently, ensuring clarity and an in-depth understanding of Power BI’s functionality.
Expressing her appreciation, Dr. Dhingra commended the PG Department of Computer Science, specifically acknowledging the dedicated efforts of Dr. Rupali Sood (HOD, Computer Science), Dr. Jagmohan Mago, and Ms. Pallavi Mehta for successfully organising the workshop. She encouraged the department to continue conducting such informative sessions to keep students updated with the latest technological advancements.
The workshop concluded on a highly positive note, equipping students with valuable skills and a deeper understanding of Power BI’s real-world applications. It reinforced the college’s commitment to fostering industry-relevant education, empowering students to excel in the field of data analytics and business intelligence.
