The NSS wing of Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, recently inaugurated a seven-day NSS camp. This ongoing camp is being organised to create awareness amongst the youth regarding the protection of the environment.

On a chilly winter morning, the camp was inaugurated by the Principal of ACFA Dr. Neerja Dhingra. While setting the tone for the initiative, Dr Dhingra said, “Here, at Apeejay, we ensure to provide ample opportunities to our students to grow and explore even outside the classroom. Our students, along with shining at academic levels, are ever-ready to participate in various activities for their multilateral development.”

Dr. Dhingra further highlighted on “Sustainable Development Goals”, which is the need of the hour.

The inaugural ceremony featured two key sessions.

The first one was delivered by Dr. Simki Dev, In-charge of NSS camp, who introduced the students with the purpose and importance of NSS, while adding that “NSS is a National Service Scheme which comes under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.” She further expressed her views on the topic ‘Anthropocene Epoch’ and said that humans are causing a lot of harm to nature in the name of development and because of this today problems like global warming and climate change exist. Further adding she emphasised, “If we do not change our ways as per mother nature then one day human existence will end.”

For the second session, Dr. HS Dhingra and Dr. Abhilaksh from Oxford Hospital were invited. They gave detailed information to the students about performing CPR in case of emergency. They also expressed the pain of continuous migration of youth from Punjab and the elderly being left alone.

More than 50 students of the college participated in these sessions. The learning process has kick-started for the enthusiastic participants who will be participating in various sessions such as yoga, social outreach programmes and so on.
