To commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, and to celebrate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day), Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar organised a thought-provoking session of ‘Yuva Sansad’, a youth parliament that gave students an engaging platform to experience democratic dialogue in action.

The event began with a warm welcome by the compere, setting a tone of enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, and spirited participation. The Yuva Sansad served as a simulated parliamentary forum where young minds debated issues of national importance, mirroring the workings of India’s real parliament. This unique initiative aimed to instill leadership, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of governance and civic responsibility among students.

Head Boy Akshat and Head Girl Yuvika extended floral greetings to Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra, expressing their gratitude for her unwavering guidance and support. The session was presided over by Dr. Vishwa Bandhu Verma, who acted as the Speaker, while Dr. Jagmohan Mago, Dr. Supreet Talwar, and Dr. Munish Gupta judged the event. The panel praised the students’ depth of research, confidence, and awareness of contemporary socio-political issues.

The mock parliament witnessed spirited debates between the ruling and opposition benches on topics such as Operation Sindoor, Vote Chori, Article 370, unemployment, poverty, communism, infrastructure scams, and One Nation, One Election. The participants demonstrated exceptional critical thinking and eloquence, making the session both engaging and educational.

Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra lauded the initiative, stating,
Yuva Sansad is a remarkable platform that nurtures democratic values and inspires our youth to think critically about the issues shaping our nation. On this National Unity Day, as we pay tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, let us also pledge to uphold integrity, unity, and responsible citizenship.

Dr. Dhingra also fondly remembered Dr. Stya Paul, Founder Chairman of Apeejay Education, for his contribution to India’s freedom struggle and his visionary approach to holistic education. She expressed gratitude to Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairman, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Chancellor Apeejay Stya University, and Chairman, Apeejay Education and Dr. Neha Berlia, Co-Owner & Director, Family Business Board, and Lead of the Education Vertical, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group for their continuous encouragement and leadership that empower the institution’s pursuit of excellence.

Recognising the efforts of faculty mentors who guided students through the mock session, she emphasised the importance of experiential learning in shaping informed, responsible citizens.

Based on performance and debating skills, Kanishka and Reet were declared Best Speakers of the Day, Ashwin and Sahil were honoured as Champions of the Cause, while Krish and Yuvika won the title of Best Parliamentarians.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Jagmohan Mago, Dean, Student Central Association, appreciating the collaborative efforts of students, judges, and organisers in making Yuva Sansad a resounding success that truly embodied the spirit of unity and democracy.
