A student’s growing years form a strong foundation for the future. Both parents and teachers take the duty of imparting the best of knowledge and values to the child. Since school is the second home for a student, its influence on personality development is extremely crucial. Meet Gaurav Mahendru, father of Prakhar Mahendru, a student of Apeejay School, Noida who asserts that his son was always motivated to pursue his football along with studies and the teachers taught him how to balance both in the best possible way.
Excerpts from an interview.
How did you select Apeejay as an admission choice?
In 2017 we moved to Delhi-NCR from Ahmedabad and we were looking for a befitting school for my son. So we selected a few options and out of them, the best school was Apeejay. The school holds a good reputation overall also, so we decided to go ahead with it.
Has the school lived up to your expectations?
Initially, we were quite happy, and over the period of time, this feeling has stayed constant. My elder son has also passed out from the same school and now my younger son will soon face the Boards in XII. I want to give special credit to the administration of this school that manages the classrooms and other facilities really well and it deems suitable for the children.

What about the balance between the studies and extracurricular activities?
The current structure is planned well and it’s satisfying for me. I like the way teachers impart participation opportunities to most students. My son is always motivated by the teachers to explore his talents to the hilt. The staff is proactive in making all students contribute something during the cultural activities.
How are the teachers here?
Teachers at this school have gone out of their way at most times to support my child. This is a very positive sign. Since all students would not have the same level of understanding and grasping of the subjects, teachers pay exclusive attention to students who need certain help over phone calls and WhatsApp. We as parents also attend regular PTMs and pay attention to all the feedback we receive regarding our child.

Is any pressure building up for the upcoming boards?
We as parents try to maintain a genuine and happy environment at home. There is no pressure put on our son from our side. Since my son is also into football we inculcate a healthy balance of studies and sports at home. Thus he balances his time between playing football and sports. I only act as a mentor to my son, not as a master who commands him to do things. He is free to make his own decisions and work towards the right direction.
How often do you interact with your child?
Almost daily. Whenever he comes back from school we sit down with our son to know what all he is doing at the school. How well is he coping with the studies, what are his weak areas and how to improve on them and is he understanding everything well or not? We help and guide him.
