AI’s role in Indian education grows

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India’s school education system presents immense potential but faces critical challenges, according to a recent policy brief. With AI increasingly becoming part of classrooms globally, India must address disparities in access, infrastructure, and teacher readiness to ensure equitable education for all students.

Key policies like the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence (2018) and the National Education Policy (2020) underscore AI’s growing role in education. Notably, AI has been introduced as a subject in school curricula, signaling a shift toward future-ready education. However, challenges persist, including data privacy concerns, algorithmic biases, and the demand for ethical AI usage.

The policy highlights transformative opportunities brought by AI, such as personalised learning pathways tailored to individual student needs and enhanced administrative efficiency in schools.
