AI trends set to shape 2026

As industries brace for 2026, a wide-ranging set of shifts across technology, lifestyle, business and culture is expected to redefine how people live, work and consume. Analysts predict that artificial intelligence will move beyond assistive chatbots to agentic systems capable of acting autonomously. At the same time, on-device AI running locally on smartphones is likely to gain traction, addressing concerns around privacy, data security and latency.

In consumer markets, wellness will increasingly drive spending decisions. The beauty industry is set to witness a deeper convergence with wellbeing, with makeup products offering skincare benefits such as hydration, sun protection and barrier repair. In automobiles, technology is expected to democratise premium features, making adaptive cruise control, advanced cameras and personalised in-car experiences standard rather than aspirational.

India’s dining and beverage landscape is also poised for transformation. The entry of millions of new legal-age consumers, combined with the sober-curious movement, is likely to fuel demand for craft beers, low- or no-alcohol cocktails and locally produced spirits. Food experiences will tilt towards micro-diners, multi-sensory formats and responsible sourcing, with chefs working closely with farmers to promote sustainability and biodiversity.

Entertainment and gaming will grapple with the growing role of AI. While gaming may become more personalised through AI-generated environments, concerns around safety and overuse remain. In entertainment, the coming year could see stronger copyright protections as creatives seek safeguards against misuse of their identities.

Fashion in 2026 is expected to emphasise personal style over algorithm-driven trends, even as overall industry growth remains modest. Second-hand and vintage fashion is likely to gain further ground as consumers seek value and individuality. Similar preferences for authenticity will shape interiors, with natural materials, curved furniture and layered textures defining home design.

Healthcare is set to move towards predictive and continuous monitoring, driven by wearables and smart sensors that offer early health alerts and personalised recommendations. In parallel, nutrition trends such as fibre-maxing will gain popularity for gut health and longevity.

On the social front, shifts in relationships, youth culture and leisure are expected. Clearer communication in dating, sober socialising and reduced social media posting point to a growing emphasis on authenticity and mental wellbeing. Sustainability will remain central, with zero-waste dining and regenerative packaging gaining momentum as Gen Z’s purchasing power rises.

These trends suggest that 2026 will be shaped by a search for balance between technology and privacy, growth and responsibility, and convenience and conscious living.
