AI grind set to build future-ready youth

Delhi has announced a pioneering initiative to empower students for a future shaped by Artificial Intelligence (AI). The city’s Department of Education, Higher and Technical Education has launched the Delhi AI Grind, marking India’s first city-wide AI and innovation movement. The programme aims to build strong foundational AI capabilities among more than five lakh students across 1,000 educational institutes, including schools, colleges, ITIs, and universities.

The initiative highlights Delhi’s commitment to lead national efforts in AI, aligning with India’s strategic focus on rapid advancement in emerging technologies. As the national capital, Delhi seeks to demonstrate how technology can transform learning environments and ensure that every student is equipped for an AI-driven era.

Designed to complement India’s ongoing AI decade, the programme focuses on structured innovation, digital problem-solving skills, and responsible use of evolving technologies. Educational institutions in Delhi will be reimagined as innovation labs, where students will collaborate with government and industry stakeholders to tackle real-world challenges and develop functional solutions tailored to civic needs.

Over the next four months, the initiative has set ambitious goals. These include training 5,000 teachers as certified AI mentors, building 1,000 student-led prototypes, selecting 50 youth ambassadors to champion AI awareness, and publishing a National Innovation Compendium that documents student-driven breakthroughs.

Open to youth aged 10 to 25, Delhi AI Grind targets innovation in ten critical sectors like transport, healthcare, food systems, tourism, governance, energy, digital education, climate action, water management, and waste solutions. The programme follows a 10-station model encompassing awareness, onboarding, district-level rounds, city showcases, pilot testing, and youth leadership development.

Aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the initiative encourages creative leadership and civic participation.
