With an aim to promote Indian classical dance forms, the PG Department of Dance of Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) in Jalandhar organised a three-day Kathak workshop. In this workshop, famous Kathak dancer and performer, Mr. Piyush Chauhan, was the resource person.
A senior member of Aditi Mangal Das Dance Company, who has made his mark in the field of Kathak dance at national and international level, Mr. Piyush Chauhan, is a brilliant disciple of Pandit Rajendra Gangani, belonging to the Jaipur Gharana. He is the first person who played an important role in taking Kathak dance to the pinnacle of fame through the live TV shows like Dance+ and Aaj Ki Raat.

Warmly welcoming the guest Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, said, “Our students are fortunate that they got this amazing opportunity to learn from such a talented and energetic personality, who has made his footmark and established himself in the field of Kathak.”
Mr. Piyush Chauhan while sharing his experience of coming to Apeejay College said, “Alumni of ACFA are making their mark in the field of Music and Dance across the country, and it’s like Apeejay College has also established itself as a music gharana”.
He further said, “The way the college is taking forward the rich heritage of music and dance, I am confident that our young generation will always remain connected to their roots and will contribute towards its development.”

Adding more, the dance expert mentioned, “ACFA is known to promote and preserve rich heritage of music and dance and this assures that our young generation stays in touch with heritage and contributes to its development.”
He also said, “The use of body parts in Kathak shows shape and beauty, whereas footwork reflects rhythm.”
In this 3-day workshop Mr. Piyush explained the nuances of Kathak dance to students. Finally, Dr. Dhingra praised the efforts of programme in-charges Dr. Amita Mishra and Dr. Mickey Verma for successfully organising the workshop.
