The courtyard of Apeejay School, Nerul, came alive on October 9, 2025, as students from Classes III to V participated in the Inter-House Mathematics Relay with enthusiasm and cheer. The event was designed to make mathematics more engaging through teamwork, logical thinking, and a touch of physical agility.
The school Principal, Vice-principal, and Coordinator were present to encourage the young participants. Their presence added to the excitement as the Class V audience applauded their peers with unrestrained enthusiasm, creating an atmosphere full of energy and motivation.

How the relay worked
Each house fielded six participants — two each from Classes III, IV, and V. The relay was divided into three rounds, testing both speed and accuracy in solving mathematical problems.
Round 1: The youngest participants from Class III began the challenge, followed by Classes IV and V. After solving a question, each participant dribbled a ball—three, four, and five times respectively—before passing the sheet to the next team member. This mix of problem-solving and coordination made the round both exciting and demanding.
Round 2: The sequence was reversed, starting with Class V. This tested the teams’ adaptability and ability to collaborate under changing conditions.
Round 3: The final round shifted to individual performance. Each participant solved a problem and converted a Hindu-Arabic number to its Roman numeral. Accuracy in conversion earned extra points, adding a competitive edge.
The team behind the event
The relay was coordinated by teachers Ms Srirupa Mukhopadhyay, Ms Nidhi Dubey, Ms Sudha Mishra, Ms Neha Khan, and Ms Richa Gulati. Volunteers played an important role in timekeeping and managing answer sheets, ensuring the event ran smoothly.

The Inter-House Mathematics Relay was more than a competition—it was a lively display of teamwork, quick thinking, and enthusiasm for learning. The young mathematicians left the courtyard not only with smiles but also with a deeper appreciation for how fun learning can be when mind and motion come together.
