An exciting Inter-class Chess Competition was recently held at Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, for students from classes IV to VIII. The event served as an excellent platform for young minds to demonstrate their strategic thinking, focus, and concentration in a competitive yet supportive environment.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students who showcased their talent with keen sportsmanship and an eagerness to apply their skills. The young players were able to demonstrate patience, critical thinking, and the ability to anticipate moves — essential attributes that the game of chess instils.

Expressing the significance of the event, Simranjit Kaur, Science Teacher shared, “Organising a chess competition in school offers many benefits, as it helps in the overall development of students. It enhances critical thinking and problem-solving skills as chess requires players to think several steps ahead and anticipate their opponent’s moves. This helps students develop strategic thinking and analytical skills.
“Chess teaches the importance of patience, as quick decisions can lead to mistakes. It also encourages discipline in following rules and respecting opponents. It encourages healthy competition and sportsmanship, a chess competition provides a platform for friendly rivalry, where students learn the importance of competing respectfully and handling both victory and defeat gracefully,” Ms Kaur added.
The winners were heartily congratulated for their achievements, and each participant was applauded for their spirit and enthusiasm. The event provided valuable experience and motivation to the budding chess players, encouraging them to continue honing their skills and to approach future challenges with confidence.
