A new AI-powered web browser for enterprise integration

Perplexity AI has announced the launch of its artificial intelligence-powered web browser, Comet, which represents a major milestone in the startup’s ambition to challenge tech giants like Google and Microsoft in the consumer internet space. Comet introduces a new way for users to interact with the web, allowing voice and text-based queries.

One of its key features is integration with enterprise tools like Slack, enabling users to ask complex questions and receive streamlined, intelligent responses. The browser is currently available to Perplexity Max subscribers, a premium plan priced at $200 per month. Access is limited and will be expanded gradually through an invite-only waitlist over the summer.

“We built Comet to let the internet do what it has been begging to do: To amplify our intelligence,” the company stated in its launch blog post.

PPerplexity, which is known for its AI-driven search engine that provides concise answers along with source links, has experienced rapid growth despite facing criticism regarding content attribution. In response to plagiarism concerns from media outlets, the company implemented a revenue-sharing model with publishers in 2023.

TThe browser launch follows reports from May indicating that Perplexity is in late-stage talks to raise $500 million in funding, which could lead to a potential valuation of $14 billion. The company was also reportedly approached by Meta earlier this year for a possible acquisition, though no deal was finalised.

Perplexity emphasised its commitment to refining Comet, promising continuous updates, new functionalities, and a focus on building “accurate and trustworthy AI that fuels human curiosity.”

With Comet, Perplexity aims to reshape the way users access and interact with information, combining advanced AI capabilities with practical enterprise utility.
