In today’s fast-paced and competitive world, excelling solely in academics is no longer enough. Achieving a balance between scholastic achievements and co-curricular pursuits is crucial for true success. The Principal’s Award recognises and encourages students to develop into well-rounded individuals, nurture their talents across diverse fields, and inspire others to follow suit.
Meet Aanshi Shagun, at present in class IX at Apeejay School, Noida, who is the proud recipient of the Principal’s Award for the academic year 2024-25. In a candid interview, she shares her delight at receiving the award, among other things.
“I am honoured to receive the prestigious Principal’s Award; it was a moment of sheer joy and surprise for me. I honestly didn’t expect it, and being chosen for such an honour was truly thrilling. I received the award when I was in Class VIII, in the middle block of the school,” she recalled.

The Principal’s Award is an all-rounder recognition given to students who excel not just academically but in various spheres of school life. The class teachers nominate students who have consistently performed well. In her case, the name was put forward because she had been active and successful in multiple domains.
“I’ve won medals in sports events, maintained strong academic results, and participated enthusiastically in cultural activities like dance. In sports, I’ve earned medals in various races, contributed to my house securing third position in football, and also played Kho-Kho. I love dancing and make it a point to take part in the school’s Annual Appreciation Days and carnivals.
“Academically, I have consistently performed well. In Class VI, I secured the third-highest percentage in my grade. In Class VII, I scored the highest marks in English. I’ve been a scholar for the past three years, and in Class VIII results, I stood second,” she shared.
Time management has played a crucial role in helping her maintain a balance. “Once I am home from school, around 3 pm. I usually unwind by watching TV. Then my study time begins at 4 pm. In the evenings, I either go cycling or swimming. I study again for two hours at night. I go to bed by 10:30 or 11 pm, ensuring I get enough rest,” she stated and added that her parents were also overjoyed when they found out about the award — perhaps even more excited than she was!
And while she had not heard about the Principal’s Award before, she assumed that her name had been nominated for Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values since the process was similar. “The process included a short interview with the Vice-principal, where selected students from each section were asked about their achievements, especially in sports and other extracurriculars. It was only when my name was selected that I came to know that it was for the Principal’s Award,” she recounted.
During the interview, she was a little nervous since all the other candidates were equally deserving. However, once it was over, she felt a newfound confidence. “Receiving the award has motivated me to keep pushing myself and made me realise that I can be a source of inspiration for my juniors. I hope they see my journey and understand the importance of striving for excellence in every aspect of school life,” Aanshi said in conclusion.
