One day, my friend Bhavya and I were walking by the side of the road when we noticed a dog barking at someone. To our surprise, no one was there. We ignored it, went home, and shared the incident with our parents.

The next day, while playing in a park that our parents had warned us about, a sudden tornado struck. The sky turned black, and we rushed back home. I slept with my grandmother, who woke up hearing a cry. She investigated and saw a black shadow, but when she opened her eyes again, it was gone. She went to the garden and found our maid, who claimed to have seen the same black shadow.

My grandmother and the maid informed my mom about the strange events. The following morning, Bhavya, my siblings, and I went on a trip to Chandigarh. Meanwhile, my grandmother, mom, and the maid visited a temple in Amritsar, where a Pandit gave my mom a lemon.

That night, my mom placed the lemon under her pillow, and the dark shadow appeared, taking her to the ground. The shadow instructed her to throw the lemon, and upon doing so, she was released. When Bhavya and I returned, my mom consulted another Pandit, who revealed shocking information about the dark shadow.

According to the Pandit, the dark shadow was a soul seeking justice. It narrated a tragic story of being murdered along with its family by a man who took away its property. The soul wanted my family’s help to retrieve the property for a noble cause – building a hospital for its daughter.

The Pandit performed a ritual, tying a red thread (mauli) on my brother’s hand for protection. During the night, the dark shadow’s voice tried to persuade my brother to remove the thread. Frightened, he succumbed to the request, and the dark shadow entered his body.

The soul guided my brother to confront the murderer and retrieve the property papers. With the same knife used to kill the soul, my brother succeeded, and the soul reclaimed its belongings. Grateful, the soul promised to help my brother whenever he needed assistance.
