A day of glory to honour determination and triumph
Annual Sports Day held at Apeejay School, Nerul, was a celebration of talent and team spirit
Recently, Apeejay School, Nerul, celebrated its Annual Sports Day with immense enthusiasm and pride. Inspired by the visionary legacy of Dr Stya Paul, Founder-Chairman, Apeejay Stya Group & Apeejay Education and freedom fighter, and guided by the dynamic leadership of Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairman, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Chancellor Apeejay Stya University, and Chairman, Apeejay Education. The event emerged as a vibrant showcase of discipline, energy, and athletic excellence. A series of sports competitions held at the school premises culminated in a grand finale later. From the stirring rendition of the school song to the triumphant cheers of victory, the day beautifully captured the spirit of sportsmanship and togetherness.
The morning commenced on a momentous note with the hoisting of the school flag by the school Principal, Mr P Subhash, followed by a warm welcome to an esteemed panel of guests. The Chief Guest, Mrs Pushpalata Dighe, DySP of Highway Traffic, Raigad, graced the occasion along with the Guests of Honour, Mr Dhananjaya Vanmali, Zonal Secretary of the Maharashtra Volleyball Association; Mr Gaurav Bhola, renowned National Powerlifting and Weightlifting Coach; and Ishaan Singh, distinguished alumnus and Gold Medallist at the Asian Powerlifting Championship. The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and a heartfelt tribute to Dr Stya Paul. An expressive invocation dance added a cultural richness, symbolising auspicious beginnings and the harmonious ethos of the school.
A standout moment of the morning was the impressive March Past, with all four houses marching in perfect rhythm, embodying the unity and discipline that define the institution’s character. This was followed by the formal declaration of the Sports Meet as open by the Principal and invited dignitaries, symbolised by the ceremonial release of balloons.
The prestigious torch-lighting ceremony honoured the school’s finest athletes, who carried the flame as a salute to perseverance and sporting excellence. The Oath Taking Ceremony, led by the Sports Captain, reaffirmed the values of integrity, fairness, and commitment among all participants.
In her inspiring address, the Chief Guest praised the school’s dedication to holistic education and applauded the confidence and enthusiasm displayed by the students. The Principal emphasised the transformative role of sports in nurturing character, resilience, and leadership skills.
The programme continued with captivating performances by Pre-primary and Primary students, including graceful yoga formations, lively dances, and colourful thematic drills that were met with enthusiastic applause. A memorable highlight was the Taekwondo Demonstration, conducted in collaboration with the Korean Culture Centre and India Taekwondo, which showcased precision, discipline, and a message of empowerment. The field events that followed infused the grounds with excitement as participants competed with determination and spirit.
Adding a heart-warming touch were the enjoyable Teachers’ Relay Race and the spirited Tug of War for Parents, both of which drew loud cheers and strengthened the community bond.
The event concluded with heartfelt appreciation for the dedication of students, teachers, and the sports faculty. Apeejay School, Nerul’s Annual Sports Day, 2025, truly reflected the institution’s commitment to excellence and sportsmanship. The day ended with the announcement of winners and the dignified lowering and folding of the school flag, marking the close of the meet and anticipation for the next year’s celebration.
