Apeejay School, Kharghar, marked International Yoga Day with great energy, involvement, and a deep sense of purpose recently. In keeping with this year’s theme, “Yoga for Well-being – A Journey for All Ages,” the school organised a series of well-planned, age-appropriate activities that brought together students and faculty in the spirit of mindfulness, movement, and inner balance.
The day began on a cheerful and lively note as the Foundational Stage, comprising students from Nursery to Class II, enjoyed a fun-filled Yoga Rhymes and Animal Pose session. Within their familiar classroom spaces, the young learners enthusiastically participated in guided movements inspired by animals like the cat-cow stretch, cobra pose, and butterfly pose. These playful exercises not only introduced them to basic yoga but also helped improve their motor skills, flexibility, and focus.
Next, students of the Primary Wing (Classes III to V) gathered on the school grounds for a Mass Yoga Demonstration. Under the careful supervision of their teachers, the students performed foundational asanas like Tadasana, Vrikshasana, and Bhujangasana, along with simple pranayama (breathing techniques). The open-air session provided a refreshing experience, blending physical fitness with inner calm. The young participants were also taught the importance of proper breathing, posture, and daily yoga practice for overall health.

The Middle School students (Classes VI to VIII) participated in an interactive Yoga Quiz Challenge. Designed to be both educational and engaging, the quiz tested their knowledge about the origin, benefits, and various schools of yoga. It also covered interesting trivia, encouraging students to delve deeper into the science and philosophy behind this ancient Indian practice. The quiz served to enhance their cognitive skills while deepening their appreciation for yoga as a holistic discipline.
Meanwhile, the senior students of Classes IX and X showcased their creativity and understanding of yoga through a Poster-Making Competition based on the theme “Yoga for Youth.” Through colours, symbols, and powerful slogans, the students depicted how yoga can empower the younger generation to handle stress, improve concentration, and lead a more balanced life. The artwork reflected deep insight, originality, and a strong connection with the values of self-discipline and harmony.
A special highlight of the day was the Sahaj Yoga Meditation Sessions conducted for students of Classes IX to XII as well as the teaching faculty. These guided sessions offered a serene, introspective experience that encouraged participants to explore their inner silence. For students, it provided tools for stress management, emotional regulation, and increased focus, especially vital during the high-pressure senior years. For teachers, it was a much-needed pause from their daily routine, promoting self-care and mental well-being.

By the end of the day, it was evident that the celebration had not only been a success in participation but also in impact. Students and staff alike felt rejuvenated, inspired, and more connected to their inner selves. Apeejay School, Kharghar, once again demonstrated its commitment to nurturing holistic individuals by seamlessly blending traditional wisdom with modern educational practices, making Yoga for Well-being truly a journey for all ages.
