“From classrooms to the countryside, every journey becomes a lesson to remember.”

Experiential learning plays a vital role in a child’s holistic development, as it allows students to step beyond textbooks and connect classroom knowledge with real-life experiences. Educational outings provide young learners with opportunities to observe, explore, and understand the world around them while nurturing curiosity, independence, and respect for diverse ways of life. Keeping this objective in mind, Apeejay School, Kharghar, organised an enriching educational excursion for the students of Class III (Sections A, B, C, and D) to Monteria Village, Navi Mumbai.

A group of one hundred enthusiastic students, accompanied by ten dedicated teachers, embarked on the journey with excitement and anticipation. Upon arrival, the children received a warm welcome and were served a nutritious breakfast, which energised them for the day’s activities.

The visit offered a delightful glimpse into traditional rural life. At the village pathshala, students experienced old-fashioned learning by writing on slates with chalk, gaining an appreciation for the simplicity of earlier education systems. As they explored further, they participated in various village-based activities that introduced them to natural art forms and sustainable living practices.

The tractor ride emerged as an exciting highlight, giving children a firsthand experience of rural transportation. At the potter’s workshop, they moulded clay into shapes and admired the beauty of traditional craftsmanship. Visits to the goldsmith’s shop, ironsmith’s workshop, barber shop, and a mock doctor’s clinic helped students understand age-old professions and the dignity of labour, turning each stop into a meaningful lesson.

One of the most memorable experiences was the farming and manure activity. Students learnt about composting, natural manure, and the vital role of earthworms in enhancing soil fertility. Holding an earthworm gently in their palms, they observed how nature supports agriculture, fostering awareness about environmental care and sustainable farming practices.

The children also enjoyed simple leisure activities like rope swings tied to trees, embracing the charm of village life and bonding with their peers.

The excursion began with excitement and concluded with gratitude, leaving students enriched with knowledge, joyful memories, and a deeper connection to nature and tradition. Such outings truly reinforce the belief that learning becomes most impactful when experienced beyond the four walls of a classroom.
