Republic Day commemorates the historic moment when the Constitution of India came into effect. The Constituent Assembly, under the chairmanship of Dr BR Ambedkar, worked tirelessly to draft and adopt the Constitution, which represents the values, ideals, and aspirations of the people of India. The day symbolises the shift of the country from a constitutional monarchy to a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic. India chose to govern itself through elected representatives, ensuring that power rests with the people.

In a jubilant display of patriotism and to express reverence, Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Jalandhar, commemorated the 75th Republic Day with enthusiasm and pride. The air resonated with the echoes of unity and brotherhood as the National Flag was unfurled by the Principal, accompanied by the stirring rendition of the National Anthem and patriotic songs by the school choir. Adding a touch of discipline and honour, NCC cadets paraded with precision.

The event unfolded with poignant speeches and poems by students, emphasising the enduring human spirit’s triumph over adversity. They shed light on the nation’s concerted efforts to bridge social differences and foster unity. A Hindi play titled Why We Celebrate Republic Day underscored the significance of a Constitution in shaping a nation’s identity. A riveting dance performance by students clad in tricolored attire further ignited patriotic fervour.

Ms Sangeeta Nistandra, Principal, Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg addressed the students, calling upon them to embrace the responsibility of nation-building with commitment, integrity, and adherence to the law. She enlightened the gathering about the Fundamental Rights and Duties enshrined in Article 51A of the Constitution, emphasising their role in shaping responsible citizens.

“These duties act as a moral and ethical compass, emphasising the responsibilities that come hand in hand with the rights granted by the Constitution. Ranging from respecting the national flag and anthem to safeguarding public property and fostering a spirit of scientific inquiry, these duties aim to create responsible citizens who actively contribute to the betterment of society,” Ms Nistandra expressed.

“When citizens understand and fulfill their duties, they become active participants in the democratic process, ensuring that the ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, as envisioned by the Constitution, are upheld,” she added.

The programme concluded with a Constitution-themed quiz and the entire assembly coming together for a heartfelt rendition of the National Anthem, paying homage to the motherland. The celebration at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg not only marked a historic milestone but also instilled a sense of civic duty and national pride among the students.
