In a heartwarming and inspiring celebration of Earth Day 2025, the bright and enthusiastic students of Class 5B at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park came together to present a vibrant, thought-provoking, and educational assembly on the important theme ‘Planet vs Plastic’. In the beautifully decorated school auditorium, the event highlighted the urgent and growing need to address plastic pollution while promoting sustainable and eco-friendly practices for a cleaner, greener, and healthier planet.

An engaging and informative programme:

The assembly was a delightful and impressive blend of information, entertainment, and creativity, capturing the audience’s attention and imagination right from the very beginning. The programme commenced with an enlightening and articulate talk that perfectly set the tone for the day’s events, followed by a crisp news segment that highlighted current environmental issues. An engaging ‘word of the day’ expanded everyone’s vocabulary and understanding related to the environment. This was followed by a melodious and heartfelt song, an energetic and rhythmic dance performance, and an insightful, thought-provoking quiz that tested and enhanced the students’ knowledge about environmental conservation and sustainability.

A special highlight of the programme was the impactful and emotionally stirring nukkad natak (street play). Students, dressed in vibrant costumes, passionately portrayed the devastating and often irreversible effects of plastic use on various ecosystems. Through their expressive performances and strong dialogues, they powerfully conveyed the importance of adopting the 3Rs – reducing, reusing, and recycling plastic products – in everyday life.

Reflecting on the importance of the event, Ms Archana Khanna, Class teacher of 5BApeejay School, Panchsheel Park, shared, “The students should learn the importance of having a sustainable future by adopting plastic alternatives. They can make Earth a better place for themselves and future generations.” She further emphasised, “The thought of the day that was presented during the assembly – Earth Day, Planet Vs Plastic – should be the motto of every child. ‘We belong to Earth, the Earth doesn’t belong to us.’

A pledge for a greener future:

The assembly concluded on an inspiring note as all students and teachers came together to take a heartfelt oath to minimise plastic consumption and make conscious efforts to protect Mother Earth. This moving moment left an indelible mark on everyone, instilling a deep and lasting sense of responsibility, care, and environmental consciousness.

The entire event not only raised awareness about pressing environmental issues but also encouraged critical thinking and self-reflection. Students were motivated to assess their personal habits and commit to adopting eco-friendly practices in their daily lives, such as carrying reusable bags, avoiding single-use plastics, and promoting green initiatives at home and in the community.

The assembly culminated on a high, patriotic note with the soulful and spirited rendition of the school song, followed by the stirring national anthem. The collective spirit, unity, and passionate appeal of the students to save the planet truly made the Earth Day celebration a memorable and unforgettable experience, leaving everyone deeply inspired and motivated to contribute to a better world.
