You must have heard the iconic line from romantic poet John Keats, ‘A thing of beauty is a joy forever’. The same can be said about  English language and literature. From William Shakespere to Agatha Christie, to Virginia Woolf , this language has produced such fine literature that it elevates the reader without a doubt.

English is an official language with many creative endeavours being written in Indian English. One must understand the gift every language brings and admire its creation. Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri in Haryana recognises the contribution of each and every language.

Thereby, the school recently celebrated English Language Day within the school premises. The eventful day was celebrated to familiarise students with the history, culture and achievements associated with the English language.

During this occasion, young enthusiasts from class 8 presented a special assembly. The celebrations commenced on a spiritual note with the daily prayers, followed by an enriching thought by students Jatin Khanak  and Kashvika, who  delivered enriching speeches about English literary history. They informed the audience about William Shakespeare’s literary legacy. They stated how the ‘Bard of Avon’ is one of the greatest writers, poets, and dramatists in the world, who left an indelible impact on the English language. They made a key observation that Shakespeare’s works have played a key role in popularising the English language.

The special assembly had many surprises up its sleeves. A delightful theatrical presentation of William Shakespeare’s iconic play the ‘Merchant of Venice’ left all students and staff in a rapture. An interesting picture quiz on the English language was presented by Riya, a student of Charkhi Dadri. Other students Dhatri presented a melodious song while Mansi danced on English hip hop beats and won the hearts of the audience.

Mr. Rudrendra Basak, Principal of the school encouraged the participants  by appreciating their efforts. He said, “I congratulate  all of you for showcasing a terrific special assembly.” He motivated them to explore the richness of English literature and read the books in the school library. He urged students to cultivate their artistic side and sharpen their language skills.
