We all know that Math is not a cup of tea for all students. Not all of them can score a cent percent. But that doesn’t mean all hope is lost and students who are weak in the subject need to give up. It is just the opposite. There are a few topics that they must study and practice thoroughly. By doing so they can score at least 80 per cent.

“Even the brightest of students can err on the day of the exam in their nervousness. This situation gets compounded for students who struggle with the subject. Math is a subject that needs constant practice and the base has to be very strong which starts right from the lower classes,” Jagjit Kaur, PGT Mathematics at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg in Jalandhar said.

She explained that a lot depends on the Math teacher as well and how well he/she has been to explain and clear the concepts. “If the teacher is experienced, the subject becomes easy to understand for the student as the teacher knows how to teach and also knows the areas where the child may be struggling. Clearing those can be extremely beneficial. I have been teaching the subject for 27 years and know the topics that some students may find difficult to understand,” Kaur said.

She added for such students it is important they study topics that are easy to comprehend and are scoring as well. “Many students want to study aboard and take up Math as an additional subject. For such students scoring 100 per cent is not on the agenda. They just need a good percentage. The same holds true for a few others. Following simple rules can help,” Kaur opined.

Tips to attempt the class XII Board exams

1.  Ensure that the answer sheet is neat and tidy. There should be no cutting or overwriting. Make a column to do rough work and write formulae.

2.  The graph and any figure required to be made in the answer sheet should be made with a sharp pointed pencil. The student should carry their geometry box with all the necessary things like rubber, and ruler to name a few.

3.  Carry all the necessary papers – Admission card etc.

4.  Ensure that you attempt the questions paper section-wise. Leave space for a question and come back to it later. It makes it easy for the examiner to check the answer sheet. It is important to do the questions number-wise. Attempt questions that carry maximum marks. This way the student will end up scoring 70-80 per cent which he/she is confident about.

5.  The student must complete the paper in two-and-a-half hours. The rest of the 30 minutes must be spent on revision and checking if any mistakes were made in calculations.

6.  I always tell students that if they have managed to complete the question paper well on time, they must even attempt the choice questions as well. Most examiners will consider the answer in which the student has got higher marks. Take an example. If the student has attempted both and in one he has scored 3 marks and in the other 4 marks, the examiner will consider the latter marks.
