The NSS Club of Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar organised a heartfelt outreach activity titled “Helping Hands” at Red Cross School, Maqsudan, Jalandhar, with the aim of spreading festive cheer and extending support to orphaned children. The initiative reflected the true spirit of social responsibility, compassion, and community service that lies at the core of the National Service Scheme.
As part of the activity, NSS volunteers visited the school and donated collected essential items for the children. The contributions were gathered through a collective effort, demonstrating the students’ commitment to giving back to society. Beyond material donations, the volunteers spent meaningful time interacting with the children, sharing joyful moments filled with warmth, laughter, and positivity.
The visit created an atmosphere of celebration and togetherness, as students engaged with the children through conversations and friendly interactions. The initiative was not merely about offering resources but about building emotional connections and reinforcing the importance of empathy and kindness. The smiles on the children’s faces served as a powerful reminder of how small gestures can create lasting happiness.

The “Helping Hands” activity provided NSS volunteers with an opportunity to step beyond the classroom and experience the deeper significance of community engagement. It encouraged them to understand the challenges faced by underprivileged sections of society and inspired them to contribute meaningfully towards social upliftment. Such initiatives play a vital role in shaping students into socially conscious individuals who value service above self.
Sharing his thoughts, Narinder Kumar, a student of B.Tech CSE (AI&ML) at AIMETC, explained, “As a student coordinator of NSS Club, I often participate in NSS club activities. This activity was a very enriching experience. He also added, “This activity also helped me develop a sense of responsibility, empathy, and gratitude. I felt proud to be part of a team that worked towards helping others. Overall, it was a valuable experience that strengthened my understanding of social responsibility and community service.”
Another student Rahul Sharma shared, “Attending the grocery distribution at Red Cross School was a meaningful and eye-opening experience. It helped me understand the importance of community service and supporting families in need. I felt happy to contribute, even in a small way, and it motivated me to participate in more social service activities in the future. Seeing the smiles and gratitude on the faces of the beneficiaries touched my heart. It made me realise how even small efforts can make a big difference in someone’s life. This experience taught me compassion, teamwork, and the importance of giving back to society.”
Faculty members accompanying the volunteers appreciated their enthusiasm and dedication in organising the outreach programme. Their guidance ensured that the initiative was conducted smoothly and that the contributions reached those who needed them the most.
The event concluded on an emotional yet uplifting note, leaving both the children and the volunteers enriched by the experience. Through collective effort and sincere intent, the NSS Club successfully made a difference—one smile at a time.
