The NSS Wing of Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar organised a seven-day National Service Scheme (NSS) camp with great enthusiasm, centred on the theme “Golden India.” The camp aimed to instill a sense of social responsibility, environmental awareness, and national pride among students through a series of educational and community-oriented activities.

The camp commenced with an inaugural ceremony that set a purposeful and inspiring tone for the week-long programme. Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Addressing the students, she lauded their commitment and active participation, especially in the face of cold weather conditions. Dr. Dhingra highlighted that the theme “Golden India” represents not only the country’s rich heritage, culture, and history, but also its vision for a progressive, self-reliant, and innovative future. She encouraged students to engage wholeheartedly in the planned activities and extended her best wishes for the successful conduct of the camp. She also appreciated the dedicated efforts of Dr. Simki Dev, Dean of the NSS Wing, for her leadership in organising the programme.

Adding a thoughtful student perspective, Muskan, a B.A. Part III student, shared her views on India’s role in building a Golden India, emphasising youth participation and responsible citizenship. The cultural dimension of the inaugural event was enriched by Bhumika, who presented a graceful classical dance performance that reflected India’s cultural richness and artistic legacy.

As part of its social awareness initiatives, NSS volunteers staged a powerful street play titled “Nayi Subah” (A New Dawn), focusing on the issue of drug abuse. The performance effectively conveyed the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of making informed and responsible life choices, drawing appreciation from the audience for its impactful message.

The inaugural day also featured the first technical session of the camp, conducted by Dr. Balwinder Singh Lakhewali, a renowned environmental expert from Punjab Agricultural University, who served as the Resource Person. Dr. Lakhewali delivered an insightful session on indigenous trees and animals, environmental conservation, forest protection, water conservation, and sustainable living practices. He also shared his personal experiences in environmental protection, inspiring students to adopt eco-friendly habits and develop a deeper connection with nature through activities such as tree walks and nature camps.

The event was attended by faculty members including Ms. Ritu from the Department of Journalism and Mr. Chitraksh from the Department of Multimedia, whose presence further encouraged student participation.

Overall, the inaugural activities of the NSS camp successfully laid a strong foundation for the week ahead. By blending social awareness, environmental education, cultural expression, and national values, the camp reflected the true spirit of the NSS and reinforced the commitment of Apeejay College of Fine Arts towards nurturing socially conscious and responsible citizens.
