With CBSE board exams approaching, Class 12 students are gearing up for one of the most crucial subjects – Biology. To help students prepare better, Ms Deepa Sharma, Academic Coordinator and Biology Teacher at Apeejay School, Faridabad, shared the best CBSE Class 12 board exam strategy for acing the theory and practical components.
Focus on Diagrams for Full Marks
One of the most scoring aspects of the Biology paper is diagrams. According to Ms Sharma, labeling is more important than beautification.
“Many times, in the marking scheme, there is no mark for drawing but marks for labeling. Students should focus on correct diagrams from NCERT and practice each at least 2-3 times,” she advises. She also recommends that even if a question is 2 marks but contains a diagram, students must draw it. In longer questions, diagrams can fetch full marks if drawn accurately.
Prioritise High-Weightage Units
Understanding weightage can guide last-minute CBSE board exam tips and planning.
Ms Sharma highlights that Unit 2: Genetics and Evolution holds the highest value with 20 marks, followed by:
“Ecology is very easy. If they go through it twice with concentration, they can memorise it fully,” she adds.
This helps students build the best revision plan for CBSE Class 12 exams.
Structuring Long Answers Smartly
To score high in descriptive questions, students must follow smart formatting. “Write answers in bullets and highlight key points. A five-mark question usually has 10 points — each carrying half mark,” says Ms Sharma.
She emphasises including diagrams wherever possible to enhance the answer.
Stick to NCERT for Definitions & Concepts
During CBSE Board Examinations, evaluation is strictly NCERT-oriented. “NCERT is the Bible for us. Write definitions word-to-word to avoid marks being cut due to interpretation differences,” Ms Sharma recommends.
For case-based questions, conceptual clarity of the entire chapter is essential, and answers must stay aligned with NCERT.
Practical Exam Strategy
For time-management tips for CBSE board exams in practicals, Ms Sharma suggests, “Students must observe the teacher’s demonstration carefully and then practice hands-on. Coordination and skill matter a lot.”
Multiple lab practices before boards ensure confidence and accuracy.
