The Apeejay Stya University (ASU) , Gurugram marked World AIDS Day with a meaningful and educative programme aimed at spreading awareness and sensitising students about HIV and AIDS. The initiative focused on enhancing understanding, encouraging responsible behaviour and challenging the stigma that continues to surround the virus. Students from various academic streams actively participated in the programme, reflecting a strong commitment to social responsibility and public health awareness.
The event commenced with the screening of a powerful and informative documentary that shed light on critical facts related to HIV and AIDS. The film highlighted the causes of the disease, its social and medical challenges, methods of prevention and the real-life experiences of individuals living with HIV. Through impactful visuals and testimonials, the documentary helped students understand the reality behind the statistics and the importance of empathy, awareness and scientific knowledge in tackling the issue.

Following the screening, an interactive and reflective discussion session was organised, where students openly shared their thoughts and questions. The discussion focused on several key aspects, including the various causes of AIDS, the importance of early awareness, and the significant role that youth can play in preventing the spread of HIV. Students also discussed how misinformation, fear and social taboos continue to fuel stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.
The session encouraged critical thinking and meaningful dialogue, allowing students to express their perspectives on how educational institutions and society at large can work together to build a more compassionate, informed and inclusive environment. Participants emphasised the need for regular awareness campaigns, open conversations and scientific education to dispel myths and promote responsible behaviour.

One of the most impactful moments of the programme was the administration of an oath at the conclusion of the event. Students collectively pledged to spread awareness about HIV and AIDS, reject prejudice and stigma, and contribute actively to the global fight against the disease. The oath served as a strong reminder of the power of youth in bringing positive social change and promoting public health awareness.
The programme successfully fulfilled its objective of educating and empowering students while instilling a sense of responsibility towards society. By combining visual learning with open discussion and personal commitment, the event created a lasting impact on participants. It reinforced the importance of compassion, awareness and collective effort in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

Overall, the observance of World AIDS Day 2025 proved to be a significant and meaningful initiative for the University. It not only enhanced students’ understanding of HIV and AIDS but also inspired them to become informed ambassadors of awareness and change. The programme reaffirmed the message that with education, empathy and collective action, the goal of an AIDS-free future can move closer to reality.
