Mehak Gupta of Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar since her school days has been interested in how organisations work and how people come together to achieve goals. “I wanted to build a career where I could learn about management, decision-making, and leadership. That’s what led me to pursue an MBA.”

This is why she chose to study in a place that focused not just on academics but also on practical learning and overall development. The environment, faculty support, and opportunities here helped her grow in confidence and clarity about her career path. Recently , Mehak bagged a placement offer from Muthoot Fincorp. Read edited excerpts of her interview:

How did you feel when you got the news of placement? What is the position you joined?

When I got the news of my placement at Muthoot Fincorp, I honestly couldn’t stop smiling. It was such a proud and emotional moment for me and my family. All the preparation and effort finally felt worth it.

I joined as a Branch Manager Trainee, and this role has been a great start to my career. It’s helping me understand the financial sector closely and learn how to handle real responsibilities at the branch level.

How did you prepare for the placement? How did your teachers at Apeejay help you pass the process?

I started preparing for placements early. I focused on improving my communication skills, brushing up on management concepts, and practicing mock interviews. I also made sure to stay updated about current affairs and company profiles.

The teachers and placement team at AIMETC were extremely supportive. They guided me in every step — from preparing my resume to improving my interview performance. Their encouragement and advice really helped me stay confident and calm during the actual placement process.

What according to you is important when going for a job interview?

I believe the most important thing in a job interview is to stay confident and be yourself. You should know your strengths, be clear about your goals, and show genuine interest in the company and role.

A positive attitude, polite communication, and a calm presence leave a strong impression. It’s also important to listen carefully and answer thoughtfully instead of rushing through the conversation.

Which skills are important to develop from day one as you join college that will help in the placement process and career?

From the very first day of college, students should work on improving their communication skills, teamwork, and confidence. Participating in class discussions, presentations, and events really helps in developing these qualities.

Apart from academics, it’s good to focus on time management, problem-solving, and adaptability. These are the qualities that help not only during placements but also throughout your professional journey.

Tips to stay calm during placement interview

Before my placement interview, I was nervous too — but I learned that being prepared makes you feel calmer. I practiced common interview questions, revised my resume, and reminded myself that it’s just a conversation, not an exam.

Taking deep breaths, keeping a small smile, and staying positive really helped me. I also told myself that even if I didn’t know an answer, it was okay to stay honest. That mindset kept me composed and confident throughout.
