Published

on

Holy festival of sikhs, which marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of sikhs. It is celebrated on the sacred Purnima of the Kartik month of the Indian calendar.

Gurpurab is not just a festival; it is a day filled with peace and love.

On this day, people remember the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji.

On the day of Gurpurab, people go to Gurdwaras. They pray and listen to kirtan and read from Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the holy book of sikhs. People also wear Rumala sahib before entering the Gurdwara.

The gurdwaras and houses are decorated with lights and flowers. In many places, there are nagar kirtans, usually a  few days before the Gurpurab.

Langar is served to all the people, whether rich or poor. People sit together on the floor and eat that meal and prashad. It teaches us equality and sharing.

At night, people light candles at gurdwaras and their houses. Everyone prays for happiness and peace.

The teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji tell us how to live a kind and honest life. He taught people to speak the truth, help the poor, and treat everyone with respect, and be a good human being.
