Bridge programmes play a pivotal role in the IB framework as they equip students with the skills, mindset, and interdisciplinary approach required to transition smoothly between the PYP and MYP, ensuring continuity and depth in their learning journey. Keeping this in mind, Apeejay’s IB School, Apeejay School International, Panchsheel Park, held the MYP1 Bridge Program, which took place from July 14 to July 18, 2025. It was a thoughtfully designed initiative aimed at easing students’ transition from the Primary Years Programme (PYP) to the Middle Years Programme (MYP)

Building Strong Foundations in Language Acquisition

In Language Acquisition (Hindi/Spanish/French), students sharpened their core language skills across Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Engaging dictation exercises enhanced their listening abilities and phonetic awareness, while reading-based writing tasks encouraged them to construct short paragraphs, strengthening comprehension and expression.

Exploring Language and Literature

To build a strong base for MYP English, students participated in the vibrant “Colour Me a Sentence” activity. This interactive exercise introduced the fundamentals of sentence structure, parts of speech, and collaborative learning, laying the groundwork for advanced literary exploration in the upcoming academic journey.

Introducing Interdisciplinary Thinking

Students were introduced to the Interdisciplinary Unit (IDU) approach, gaining an understanding of how various academic disciplines interconnect to form a cohesive learning experience. Through discussions and examples, they explored the integrated nature of knowledge, while also receiving an overview of IDU criteria to prepare them for future cross-curricular projects.

Unveiling the Concept of Design

The Design module invited students to think creatively and critically. Using a Think-Pair-Share strategy, they compared definitions of ‘design’, shared their initial thoughts, and refined their understanding through collective discussions. This culminated in reflective ‘exit tickets’, helping them grasp how design thinking influences problem-solving and innovation.

Global Citizenship in Action

Taking learning beyond the classroom, an outdoor session in the school garden brought concepts like biodiversity, sustainability, and responsible space usage to life. Students connected these real-world themes to the principles of global citizenship, fostering awareness of their role as responsible learners and future leaders.

Foundational Learning in Mathematics and Science

In Mathematics, students explored the key components of the MYP curriculum — from command terms and global contexts to related concepts and assessment criteria. This equipped them with tools to approach future units with clarity and confidence.
The Science sessions inspired curiosity through experiential learning. A guided nature walk encouraged observation and inquiry, while a solubility experiment in the lab familiarised them with fair testing, command terms, and foundational scientific thinking.

Focusing on Ethics and Well-being

A dedicated workshop on Academic Honesty emphasised the importance of ethical academic practices. Students learned essential skills like paraphrasing, quoting, and referencing, while revisiting the core values of the ASI Academic Integrity Policy. A Social Emotional Learning (SEL) session provided students with a nurturing space to express their thoughts, fostering resilience, self-awareness, and a positive mindset as they step into the MYP phase.

This immersive, week-long programme equipped students with the academic skills, interdisciplinary understanding, and social-emotional readiness required to confidently embark on the next phase of their learning journey.
