Mrs. Marisha Sharma is a homemaker and her husband Mr. Nikhil Sharma is a chartered accountant. Their son Devasya Sharma is a bubbly kindergarten student at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg. In a short interview, Mrs. Marisha Sharma tells us about her opinion about the school from the perspective of both a parent as well as an alumnus. Edited excerpts.
What made you choose Apeejay School Mahavir Marg over other schools for your child’s admission?
Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg has a rich legacy in Jalandhar. It is one of the oldest and the most trusted schools in Jalandhar. The teachers are very experienced. They constantly update themselves with the latest knowledge. The school has recently introduced phonetics as a subject and I must say that the teachers are well-versed in it. Our child doesn’t need any extra coaching for any subject. This is the benefit of sending our child to such a school.
Please tell us a bit about your child and take us through his progress at school?
Devasya is a very curious child. He is very innovative and likes to construct shapes with blocks. He has to listen to a story every night from his mother (laughs). He loves to read a children’s magazine which I recently got for him. I want him to develop good reading habits. So, I have restricted the TV time for him.
His teachers tell me that he has full concentration during his classes. He loves to study Math and also likes English. He enjoys playing badminton and football. He also likes to draw.
Do you think the teachers are engaging well with the students?
Yes, the teachers are engaging well with the students. They are also very comfortable with their parents. The teachers always listen keenly to the feedback of a parent. They immediately resolve the query of a parent. Principal Sir is also very cooperative and nice.
When the pandemic began, we as parents were very anxious about the education of our children but Apeejay School Mahavir Marg began the online classes by April itself.
Every child is well-focused in the class. The teaching approach is very impartial. I am an alumni of the school myself. It gives me great joy to see that the school updates itself from time to time. In the field of education in Jalandhar, Apeejay Mahavir Marg is doing really well.
I remember, when I used to study in class 9, the same teacher who was teaching us, had also taught the parents of some of our classmates. It was not only very surprising for us but also very special. The teachers have a lot of experience and memories. They have been taught various new subjects from time to time by the school. That is a great thing for every school. The teachers are well-trained.
Sanjukta Jyoti Ma’am used to teach us during my student days and she is still teaching at the school. I am so happy about that. The school has many wonderful teachers such as Priyanka Ma’am, Vatsala Ma’am and many more teachers. It is very difficult to name one. The staff is very nice, cooperative and is managing things wonderfully.
Please tell us the best thing about the school?
I think the best thing about the school is the curriculum, the cooperation of the teachers and the education that it is imparting to its students.
What are the advantages of the online classes?
There is no other option in the current situation. A child getting disconnected with the classes is not a good thing. The best thing about the online classes is that the children are updated with their studies.
The pandemic has been going on since the past two years. Every sector has been affected. So, at least, we are glad that the education of the children is happening and the child is connected to the teacher. The teachers are also putting in their best efforts in the online classes. But of course, the children eagerly want to go to school. They want to meet their friends and teachers. They miss that interaction.
