Recently, Apeejay School, Noida, resonated with artistic fervour and cultural pride as it hosted the Inter-house Lippan Art Competition. The event was a vibrant celebration of Gujarat’s rich artistic heritage, showcasing the traditional lippan kaam — a unique form of mural craft that uses clay and mirrors, originating from the Kutch region.
The competition brought together talented students from all four houses — Nehru, Radha Krishnan, Tagore, and Gandhi — who participated with enthusiasm and remarkable creativity. Each team worked harmoniously to craft intricate and visually captivating artworks using natural clay, mirrors, and vibrant motifs inspired by folk traditions. Their pieces beautifully reflected the essence of rural India and the timeless beauty of Indian crafts.
As the event unfolded, the school premises transformed into a colourful gallery of ethnic expression. Students displayed not only aesthetic talent but also technical skill, blending symmetry, texture, and mirror placements with commendable precision. It was heartening to witness how young artists paid homage to the age-old art form while adding their contemporary flair and interpretation.

The judges appreciated the originality and attention to detail evident in each artwork. The spirit of teamwork and collaboration was especially lauded, as students seamlessly divided tasks such as mixing clay, forming designs, and embedding mirrors to bring their collective vision to life.
The competition concluded with an award ceremony that acknowledged the dedication and effort of all participants. Nehru House emerged as the winner, impressing the judges with its cohesive theme and flawless execution. Radha Krishnan House secured the second position, while Tagore House followed closely in third place. The spirited cheers and applause from fellow students and teachers created an atmosphere of celebration and pride.
The school Principal, Dr Neha Sharma, commended the participants for their commendable work and emphasised the importance of preserving and promoting India’s folk arts. “Such events not only encourage creativity and collaboration but also connect our young learners with the cultural roots of our nation,” she remarked.

The Inter-house Lippan Art Competition at Apeejay School, Noida, was more than just an artistic contest — it was a meaningful journey into India’s cultural legacy, leaving a lasting impression on all who witnessed it.
