In a bid to enhance classroom teaching through innovation and experiential learning, 11 dedicated science teachers from Apeejay School, Noida embarked on a professional development visit to the National Science Centre (NSC), New Delhi. The educational tour was designed to introduce educators to hands-on teaching methodologies and explore new-age tools that can make science more accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for students.

Immersive gallery tour sparks scientific curiosity

The National Science Centre, a hub of creativity and scientific exploration, proved to be the perfect setting for this professional enrichment experience. During the visit, teachers explored a range of captivating galleries including the Fun Science Gallery and the Human Biology Gallery. These interactive spaces showcased exhibits that simplified complex scientific theories and brought them to life, encouraging curiosity and deeper understanding.

One of the most enriching parts of the visit was a special interaction with Mr. Dinesh Malik, Education Officer at NSC. Mr. Malik shared valuable insights on inquiry-based learning – a progressive approach that encourages students to ask questions, investigate solutions, and develop critical thinking skills. He also demonstrated the use of scientific equipment in a classroom setting, highlighting its importance in making science a living, breathing subject.

Hands-on learning at the innovation lab

Another key highlight was the visit to the NSC’s Innovation Lab – a futuristic space equipped with 3D printers, robotics kits, and DIY science tools. The lab offered teachers a glimpse into how technology can foster creativity, experimentation, and problem-solving among students. It reinforced the importance of providing platforms where students can think independently and build tangible models of their ideas.

The session further underlined the diverse learning opportunities that the NSC offers, such as science fairs, interactive workshops, and guided explorations that align with school curricula.

Inspired by this immersive experience, the teachers returned with a renewed zeal to integrate experiential learning techniques into their classrooms. They expressed a collective commitment to fostering a scientific temper in students – nurturing not just knowledge, but a genuine love for discovery.
