The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has confirmed that the Class XII Board exams for 2025 will be conducted between February 15 and April 4, 2025. The exams will follow the traditional pen-and-paper mode. The schedule commences with the Entrepreneurship paper and concludes with Psychology. Furthermore, CBSE has released the official syllabus for the 2025 session, outlining key topics and chapters that students should focus on while preparing.

Gaining a clear understanding of the exam pattern is crucial, as it provides insights into the marking scheme, types of questions, and time distribution for each subject.

Ms Sumitha Nair, PGT Accounts, Apeejay School, Nerul, not only shared the mistakes in the exam during the exam but also a few study tips.

The CBSE Class 12 Business Studies exam is of 80 marks with a total of 34 questions.

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs): 20 questions × 1 mark each = 20

Short Answer Type Questions (SATQ-I): 4 questions × 3 marks each = 12 marks (2 internal options)

Short Answer Type Questions (SATQ-II): 6 questions × 4 marks each = 24 marks (2 internal options)

Long Answer Type Questions (LATQ): 4 questions × 6 marks each = 24 marks (2 internal options)

“Students need to understand the syllabus, be thorough, and create a study strategy to score well on this paper,” the educator shared.

Prep tips

Familiarise yourself with the complete syllabus and weightage of each unit. Focus more on high-weightage chapters like Financial Management, Marketing Management, and Principles of Management.

Organise your study schedule, allowing time for all subjects, and stick to it.

NCERT is the most reliable source for the CBSE exam. Make sure you read each line carefully, as many questions are directly picked from the textbook.

Highlight and remember key terms and definitions in each chapter. Use them while answering to make your answers precise and presentable.

Practice writing structured answers, including headings, sub-headings, and examples. Follow the point-wise approach for better presentation.

Solve at least 5 years’ worth of previous question papers to understand the exam pattern and improve time management.

Practice case-based questions thoroughly as they carry significant weight. Focus on applying concepts to real-life situations.

Keep revising important topics and definitions. Make concise notes for quick revisions before the exam.

Practice answering within the given time limit. Divide your time between MCQs, short answers, and long answers during preparation.

Use flowcharts and diagrams for concepts like the process of planning or staffing. This improves presentation and makes it easier for the examiner to follow.

Focus on assertion-reasoning and MCQ-based questions, as these are scoring but require conceptual clarity.

Write answers neatly, underline keywords, and number your points. A well-organised answer can leave a positive impression on the examiner.

Review your errors in mock tests or sample papers and work on areas where you lose marks, such as incomplete answers or incorrect ones.

Follow a consistent study routine and give yourself short breaks to avoid burnout. Maintain a positive mindset and stay confident.

5 mistakes to avoid

1. Utilise the first 15 minutes to understand all questions carefully and plan your answers.

2.       Stick to word limits; lengthy answers waste time and may lead to incomplete papers.

3.       Pay attention to terms like ‘explain,’ ‘list,’ and ‘differentiate’ to tailor your response accordingly.

4.       Don’t underestimate case-study questions; read carefully to identify the main issues and solve them logically.

5.       Stay focused on what the question asks and do not write irrelevant content. Examples enhance the Business Studies answers, so make sure to include them.
