Recently, Apeejay School, Model Town, hosted an impactful session titled From Virtual Battles to Real-Life Balance: Tackling Gaming Addiction and Anger for class VIII-A students. This insightful initiative was led by the school counsellor, aiming to raise awareness about the growing concerns surrounding excessive gaming and unregulated anger.
The session opened with a stark reality check about the increasing prevalence of gaming addiction among students. With the rapid rise of online games, students often find themselves spending excessive hours in front of screens. Gaming addiction, as explained, can lead to neglect of responsibilities, poor time management, and even physical health issues such as sleep deprivation and eye strain. Hence, it is important to recognise these signs early and take proactive measures to address them, the school counselor advised.
The link between gaming and anger
A significant focus of the session was on understanding the connection between excessive gaming and heightened aggression. Competitive gaming environments often expose players to frustration and anger, which can spill over into real-life interactions. The counselor illustrated how unmanaged anger could lead to strained relationships with family and friends, creating an unhealthy cycle of conflict.
Students were introduced to practical strategies to balance their gaming habits and emotional well-being. The counselor emphasised the importance of setting boundaries for screen time and engaging in physical activities, hobbies, or social interactions. Breathing exercises and mindfulness techniques were also recommended to manage anger effectively.
An interactive and motivational approach
What made the session particularly engaging was its interactive approach. The counselor encouraged students to share their experiences, fostering a safe space for dialogue. Real-life examples and relatable scenarios helped students connect with the topic on a personal level. Motivational anecdotes further inspired them to reflect on their choices and strive for a balanced lifestyle.
By the end of the session, students were equipped with actionable steps to reduce their dependence on gaming and handle anger constructively. They left with a deeper understanding of how their habits impact their mental health, relationships, and prospects.
Apeejay School, Model Town, continues to focus on the holistic development of its students through initiatives like these. The motivational session on gaming addiction and anger management is a testament to the school’s commitment to nurturing responsible, emotionally resilient individuals who can balance their virtual and real lives effectively.
