Read edited excerpts:

How does it feel to win the Inter-school SpellBee competition?

It feels great. This wasn’t my first time competing internationally. I had reached the global stage back in class V as well. But every competition feels special. The journey this time has been very rewarding.

What was your strategy for preparing 1,000 words from the competition booklet?

Most participants focus on memorising the words, but I approached it differently. I rely on phonetics, which are given alongside each word. Since I’m familiar with reading phonetics, I had an upper hand. This skill helped me write most words correctly even before hearing them aloud.

Did you find any of the words challenging?

Not really. I keep improving my vocabulary regularly by reading and writing. That practice made most words seem easy for me.

How has Apeejay School supported your achievements?

My English teachers have been pivotal in shaping my language skills. Their guidance over the years has greatly enhanced my vocabulary and writing abilities.

What value do you think such competitions add?

SpellBee competitions help you expand your vocabulary significantly. As a writer and poet, I often incorporate new words into my work. It’s a fun challenge that enhances expression. Plus, even if you don’t win, you walk away with knowledge of a thousand new words.

You have diverse interests! Could you share more about them?

Absolutely! I’ve been playing basketball for nine years and represent the school team. I also play the piano and hold a diploma from Trinity College, London. I enjoy reading, writing, and even baking. Last year, I attended a STEM programme at Yale University. At present, I’m preparing for the SAT with a dream of joining an Ivy League School.

What message would you like to give to your peers?

Never stop learning. Competitions like SpellBee are not just about winning — they’re about discovering your potential and improving yourself. And always explore your interests; they shape who you are.
