World Mental Health Day serves as a powerful platform for schools to raise awareness about mental health, offering students a safe space to learn about emotional well-being, resilience, and the importance of seeking support. Such events are crucial in fostering open conversations about mental health, reducing stigma, and creating a supportive environment where students feel empowered to take care of their mental and emotional health.
On October 10, students and staff members of Apeejay School International (ASI), Panchsheel Park came together to celebrate World Mental Health Day under the theme Learning with Care. The event was dedicated to raising awareness about mental health, promoting emotional well-being, and fostering resilience among students and staff. Throughout the day, participants engaged in various activities aimed at breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and encouraging open dialogue.

The day began with the symbolic pinning of green badges over teachers, highlighting collective commitment to mental health awareness. This gesture embodied the theme reinforcing the idea that caring for our mental well-being is an essential part of personal and academic growth. The initiative encouraged students and staff alike to prioritise emotional balance, empathy, and mutual support. The event was thoughtfully organised and coordinated by members of the SEND Department (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), Ms Sadaf Mirza and Ms Iknoor Kohli, who worked collaboratively to ensure its success.
“Prioritising mental health and well-being is essential for our entire community, fostering a supportive environment that nurtures resilience and compassion for success in all aspects of life,” Ms Neha Sharma, Vice-principal and DP Coordinator at ASI shared.
Tailored activities ensured that students from all grades could engage meaningfully. Younger students in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) took part in workshops that explored mental health and feelings, helping them understand the importance of emotional well-being from a young age. For students in the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP), the discussions focused on addressing the stigma surrounding mental health and the importance of seeking help. DP Psychology students played a pivotal role, facilitating peer-led activities that fostered open discussions on mental health topics, encouraging their peers to reflect on their own experiences.
Interactive initiatives such as a gratitude wall, word searches, and mental health hopscotch allowed students to engage with mental health concepts in a fun and creative way. These activities emphasised the significance of self-care and the value of emotional resilience. Additionally, a documentary screening on mental health featured personal stories and critical discussions, encouraging students to reflect on their perceptions of mental health and the importance of seeking support.
The day concluded with a strong sense of unity and purpose, reminding everyone that seeking help is a sign of strength and that by fostering empathy and understanding, we can build a compassionate, supportive community. Through events like this, ASI continues to lead the way in nurturing mental well-being and promoting open dialogue on mental health.
