Subject enrichment activities play a crucial role in the holistic development of young learners. It fosters creativity, critical thinking, and cognitive skills. These activities provide hands-on experiences that go beyond the traditional classroom, allowing children to explore new concepts engagingly and interactively.
By incorporating these activities, Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, aimed to nurture a love for learning among its pre-primary students and develop foundational skills essential for their overall growth.
Pre-nursery: Alphabet ‘I’ Activities
Pre-nursery students engaged in activities centred around the alphabet ‘I’. Through these interactive sessions, they not only recognised the alphabet but also developed vocabulary and fine motor skills. Activities included tracing, colouring, and identifying objects beginning with ‘I’, which enhanced their hand-eye coordination and understanding of the alphabet’s sound and shape.
Nursery: Alphabet ‘E’ and Caterpillar Counting
Nursery students participated in a creative alphabet ‘E’ – Clay Activity. They moulded clay into the shape of the alphabet ‘E’ and crafted objects related to it like elephants and eggs. This activity reinforced letter recognition, phonics, and vocabulary, while also honing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Additionally, the ‘Caterpillar Finger Print Counting’ activity helped students recognise numbers by making fingerprint impressions to match the numbers. The use of green colour for numbers integrated colour recognition with computational skills.
LKG: Learning About Water and Size Concepts
LKG students explored the various uses of water, which enriched their vocabulary and fostered cognitive development. They also learned to differentiate between big and small objects using light and dark green colours. This hands-on approach reinforced their understanding of size concepts in a fun and engaging way.
UKG: Green Day Celebration
UKG students celebrated ‘Green Day’, a vibrant event where they explored the colour green through various activities. A classroom tour, combined with a playground exploration, immersed the children in an environment filled with shades of green. They also coloured 14 leaves on a tree, reinforcing their understanding of the number name ’14-Fourteen’ and making learning an enjoyable experience.
Through these enriching activities, Apeejay School continues to create a stimulating learning environment that promotes curiosity, creativity, and cognitive development among its youngest learners.
