An exclusive insight into how a passion for science propelled Apeejay alumnus to become a leader in medicine

Dr. Karan Chouhan, an accomplished alumnus of Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, has had an inspiring journey from his school days in Jalandhar to becoming a successful doctor.

Dr. Chouhan has not only excelled academically but has also contributed significantly to the medical field through research, philanthropy, and mentorship. In this exclusive conversation, Dr. Chouhan shares insights into his journey, achievements, and the values that have driven him forward.

Can you share a bit about your early years at Apeejay School and how they shaped your career path?
My early years at Apeejay were filled with sports, particularly basketball and cricket. I was quite passionate about sports and dreamt of a career in it. However, things took a turn when I participated in the NASA Space Settlement Design Competition in 9th grade.

This international competition, which involved creating a viable space settlement design, was a life-changing experience. Our team won the second prize initially and the grand prize the following year. This success inspired me to pursue a career in science, eventually leading me to medicine.

How did your experience with the NASA competition influence your decision to pursue medicine?
The NASA competition was a pivotal moment. Working on a project that focused on human survival in space piqued my interest in how science can solve critical problems. Additionally, hearing stories from my family, especially about my grandmother who aspired to be a doctor but couldn’t pursue it due to the circumstances, deeply motivated me. This blend of inspiration and my growing interest in science made me choose medicine.
